Moms often describe the hours, days and weeks following their babies’ arrival as a wonderful yet overwhelming time. It is also an important time to have helpful information and support for breastfeeding success.
Anne Arundel Medical Group (AAMG) Chesapeake Women’s Health now provides education and support to make the breastfeeding experience positive, rewarding and successful. It is the only OB-GYN practice on the Eastern Shore offering in-office breastfeeding support from a board-certified lactation consultant.
“Any way you choose to feed your baby is a loving act,” says Ginny Bowers, dually-boarded certified nurse midwife and lactation consultant with AAMG Chesapeake Women’s Health. “If you decide breastfeeding is the right choice for you and your baby, we are here to help with both the physical and emotional aspects of breastfeeding.”
“We are proud to provide comprehensive, personalized care to women on the Eastern Shore,” said Patrick O’Brien, MD, an OB-GYN who has been with the practice since 2006. “It is important women know all of the resources available to them at AAMG Chesapeake Women’s Health, to support them at every stage in life.”
Breast milk is a natural source of nutrition and provides the healthiest start for an infant, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). AAP recommends breastfeeding for one year or longer as mutually desired by mother and baby.
