Kim Schall, PT, a Caroline County native, had a vision three years ago to offer rehabilitation services in Caroline County. Initially, she opened her privately-owned physical therapy and sports medicine practice, Advantage Rehab, at Homestead Manor, but quickly outgrew the space there. Today, Advantage Rehab has offices in both Denton and Federalsburg, providing a wide range of physical therapy services to address a variety of health care needs for patients of all ages from infants to the elderly.
Schall, who has 21 years of experience as a physical therapist, was employed at Shore Health System for 15 years before opening her own practice in Caroline County. She comments about the practice’s new location at 103 S. 7th Street in Denton, “The open space of our newly renovated building allows us to accommodate both physical therapy and fitness space, with an additional space for the pediatric services. Plus, we have created a friendly, welcoming environment – the perfect place to recover.”
The practice, which sees up to 150 patients each week in both Denton and Federalsburg, is patient-centered – taking a personal approach to each patient’s needs and goals. The spa-like environment offers a serene and peaceful space for healing. Schall adds, “In addition to a comfortable environment, we want to make the long-term experience of rehab more personal for our patients.” She adds, “The experience is key to a patient’s recovery and affects their commitment to come. If the people in the practice are friendly, kind, and invested in the patients they serve, each patient is more likely to be more invested in his or her own recovery.”
Kyle Citro of Goldsboro, brings her daughter, Becca, age seven, to Advantage Rehab to strengthen her joints and to stabilize her legs and core due to a connective tissue disorder (EDS) and dysfunction of her autonomic nervous system. Because Advantage Rehab offers pediatric services, which incorporates fun and learning in the exercises, Becca feels better and is improving. Citro comments, “This is a place Becca likes to go. It’s patient-centered therapy, which includes a rock wall, which Becca can now climb.”
In addition to pediatric services, Advantage Rehab offers physical therapy for sports-related injuries, total joint replacements, post-surgical orthopedic rehab, muscle, tendon, ligament and bone injuries; reconditioning, flexibility and strengthening interventions; chronic and neurological conditions, and vestibular rehabilitation and balance training. The practice also offers a follow-up exercise program for clients needing continued fitness training following their rehabilitation. The exercise room is also open to members of the community who want an affordable fitness membership. Future plans for Advantage Rehab include offering athletic performance and injury prevention, as well as massage therapy.
Joe Riley of Ridgely, a patient with Advantage Rehab for three months following shoulder surgery, comments, “Everyone in the practice has a smile on their face and treats you with respect. They care about how you are progressing in therapy. They also offer convenient hours and scheduling for busy professionals.” He adds, “I did so well that I recommended Advantage Rehab for my wife for her shoulder issues.”
Advantage Rehab offers an experienced team of qualified physical therapists and physical therapy assistants to assist patients in their recovery. Schall, a physical therapist, completed her degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. A new physical therapist, Maddi Lee, DPT, has joined the practice. Among the physical therapy assistants are Karen Monteith, and Megan Hartwick. Aimee Jarrett is a medical assistant and serves as the office manager in Federalsburg. Tara Phipps is the office manager and billing specialist in the Denton Office.
Advantage Rehab accepts most major insurance plans, as well as Workman’s Compensation and motor vehicle accident cases. Offices are located at 103 S. 7th Street in Denton and at 4006 Hayman Drive in Federalsburg. Both offices are open on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
