The Tidewater Camera Club is pleased to present photographer Hunter Harris for a presentation on aerial photography on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 7 to 9 PM in the Talbot County Community Center’s Wye Oak Room. Mr. Harris will share recent examples of unique aerial imagery he has captured during more than forty years of flying. International award winning images, judged to be dramatic and unusually challenging to capture, will be shared and discussed during his presentation. These images were taken over a period of decades while he was flying various airplanes and airships around the USA. Also, some high-tech HD aerial video taken from an antique airplane and created for a new and interesting application, will be shared. On display will be examples of equipment, cameras and lenses used in aerial photography for the audience to see.
Mr. Harris is a 6th generation Eastern Shore native who has spent well over 12,000 hours flying all kinds of aircraft both in the US and abroad. His interest in photography started at an early age with his first 110 Kodak camera ordered from the back of a Nestlé Quik box of chocolate. He spent about 10 years flying airships around the country and over most major sporting events, always with a camera within reach and often with a major TV network’s camera crew on board. Hunter has served for six years as a judge for the PAPA’s (Professional Aerial Photographers Association) International photo competition, and in 2007 was awarded PAPA’s prestigious “Masters Award” for his photographic accomplishments. He is the PAPA FAA Liaison representative in Washington DC, and recently served as a member of the FAA ARC (Aviation Rule Making Committee) helping to design what has recently been released as the new sUAS “Part 107” rules for drone operations.
Hunter is commercially licensed by the FAA to fly every category of aircraft that presently exists. He is also an FAA certified flight instructor for airplanes and airships, an FAA licensed aircraft mechanic, and an FAA licensed Part 333 sUAS (drone) operator. All these certifications were accomplished without military or airline support or training. Hunter was elected as a full member of SETP (Society of Experimental Test Pilots), based at Edwards AF Base in California, by virtue of his unique flight testing experience.
Apart from photography.his personal interests include old cars, power and sail boating, antique airplanes and figuring out a way to clean up the Bay.
