It’s Spring, which turns the thoughts of residents and lovers of the DelMarVa Peninsula (Delaware, the 7 Eastern Shore counties of Maryland, and Accomack and Northampton counties in Virginia) to summer fun on our waterfronts.
The Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay was a popular escape from urban areas beginning in the early 20th century. In this postcard-illustrated talk, “Destination: Eastern Shore,”Pete Lesher (Chief Curator of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum) will show the crossing by steamboat and ferry until the shores of the Chesapeake were connected by the Bay Bridge, as well as what attracted these visitors, from small, quiet towns and rural waterfront inns to the more boisterous resort destinations of Betterton and Tolchester Beach.
What: “Destination: Eastern Shore,” an illustrated talk by Pete Lesher, Chief Curator of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St. Michaels, Maryland. The talk will be heavily illustrated with postcards of the era.
