Finnish high school student Anna Palander has recently joined the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum as a volunteer mechanic in its boatyard, where she is helping maintain CBMM’s floating fleet of historic boats while learning more about the trade.
Volunteering approximately twenty hours per week over six weeks, Panderer’s experience is made possible through the German American Chamber of Commerce California, based in San Diego, Ca. Her service also includes mentoring and supporting events and activities, helping to carry out specific social projects and helping the museum deliver education about the history and environment of the Chesapeake Bay.
After successful completion of her volunteer program, Ms. Palander will return to her home to complete her mechanic’s education in Hyvinkää.
