Illumination, expressed simply, is the art of decorating books and manuscripts with brilliant color and gold. For centuries illuminated letters have adorned pages painstakingly created my monastic scribes. Embellished with gold leaf, illuminated letters seemed to reflect light as though there were “illuminated”.
Back by popular demand, talented instructor Lee D’Zmura will guide students step-by-step through the techniques, materials and tools needed to recreate stunning letters in a variety of historical styles. You will learn the prescribed elements of illuminations from the 7th century Celtic to 15th century Renaissance designs. Students will leave class confident, with a new set of skills and with completed pieces.
The two day workshop will be held Dec. 2nd and 3rd, 9am to 3pm.
Students from a previous illumination class have remarked that they were amazed at what they were able to learn and the beautiful pieces they created in only two days.
And as always, learning with Lee is not only a valuable art experience, it is always FUN.
