The Mid Shore Community Foundation has announced a bequest from the estate of Mary Lynch of approximately $2 million to establish a scholarship fund at the Foundation for the benefit of the Mid-Shore Community.
A native of Wicomico County, Mary Lynch was born on October 21, 1924. Mary, the youngest of four children, was raised on a farm in Quantico, Maryland and graduated from Wicomico High School.
After the death of her husband, Mary relocated to Caroline County and began working for James H. Lynch in his oil distribution business. Mary and James married in 1969. Together they traveled extensively and enjoyed traveling to Europe and China via merchant ships.
Mary had one daughter, Sarah Bradbury, who died in 2008.
Mary moved to Londonderry in 2005 and died on April 12, 2017.
Buck Duncan, president of the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, noted the significance of this bequest: “Through the establishment of this fund, Mary Lynch has generously expanded the capacity of the Mid-Shore Community Foundation to support students pursuing higher education.”
The Mary B. Lynch Memorial Scholarship Fund will be awarded annually to students graduating from Caroline County Public High Schools. For more information on the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, visit www.mscf.org.
