Bill Tilghman, the Centreville lawyer who is the Democratic nominee for Congress from Maryland’s First District, will be in Easton on Saturday, July 12, to meet with local residents. He will be at the local Democratic campaign headquarters, 125 N. Washington St., from 10 a.m. to noon.
All First District voters are invited to come by to speak with the candidate. Tilghman says listening to voters, not lecturing them, is the key to his campaign.
“Democracy works best when the ear is working harder than the tongue,” he said last week. “The more you meet face to face with voters, the more you get away from the partisan logjam. People want practical solutions, not speeches. And they’ll tell you pretty straight out if they think you are not paying attention to them.”
Tilghman faces Republican incumbent Andy Harris, a Cockeysville physician and self-proclaimed tea party member, in the Nov. 4 general election.
The Talbot County Democratic headquarters is just south of the Saturday morning Easton Farmers’ Market, making it easy to buy produce and meet a congressional candidate in one trip. Tilghman’s visit is being hosted by the Talbot County Democratic Forum, www.demforum.com.
