Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy (MRC) is accepting submissions for a photography contest. The winning photograph will be featured on the cover of the upcoming 2013 Rivers Report Card, to be published in April.
MRC’s annual Report Card publishes the results of water quality testing from the prior year. MRC partners with Midshore Creekwatchers to collect water quality samples more than 500 times at over 100 various sites in the Choptank River, its major tributaries, the Miles and Wye Rivers, Eastern Bay watershed, and the Tuckahoe River. Testers measure water clarity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and pH salinity, and sample for nitrogen, phosphorus and chlorophyll A. MRC uses analysis protocol developed in collaboration with the Maryland Tributary Assessment Coalition to analyze the data and determine grades on the report card.
Any subject matter will be accepted for the photography contest, including riverscapes, marine scenes, or people enjoying outdoor recreation. “Whether it’s a beautiful sunset while sailing, a perfect shot of geese in flight, or a picture of the family fishing outing,” says Suzanne Sullivan, a member of the MRC education team, “we’re looking for photographs that show us why you love our rivers.”
Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration, protection, and celebration of the waterways that comprise the Choptank River watershed, Eastern Bay, and the Miles and Wye Rivers. The organization serves as an advocate for the health of these tributaries and the living resources they support.
The deadline to enter the photo contest is March 1, 2013. Entries should be emailed to [email protected].
