University of Maryland Shore Regional Health joined the American Association for Respiratory Care in observing National Respiratory Care Week, October 25-31.
This annual observation recognizes the professionalism and high quality patient care demonstrated by respiratory care providers, as well as raises awareness of lung health issues and practices.
According to Gary Jones, regional director for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Services, respiratory care practitioners at UM Shore Regional Health are licensed in the State of Maryland by the Maryland Board of Physicians to provide critical airway and ventilatory support to patients of all ages; pre-mature infants to older adults requiring mechanical ventilator support. Under Respiratory Care Protocols approved by the Department of Medicine they perform in-depth assessment of a patient’s cardiac and respiratory status and order therapy with the objective of improved clinical outcomes. Practitioners perform basic and advanced Pulmonary Function studies and Arterial Blood Gas analysis in order to provide an assessment of the patient’s condition prior to and following medical management.
“It is with great pride that we celebrate our respiratory care team members throughout the region, who strive to provide our patients with high quality care, which not only improves their medical condition, but also improves their overall well-being and quality of life,” comments Jones.
Steve Eisemann, regional manager for the department adds, “The commitment of our team members to provide our patients with the best possible care is truly appreciated by our patients, their families and our community as a whole, which is healthier as a result.”
As part of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), University of Maryland Shore Regional Health is the principal provider of comprehensive health care services for more than 170,000 residents of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
