The Pascal Group has purchased Mason’s, an Easton-based restaurant that has been a favorite of local residents as well as visitors to the area since it opened in 1966. The purchase is effective immediately.
Located in historic Easton, Mason’s is noted for its comfortably sophisticated atmosphere, offering classic cuisine infused with the bounty of the Eastern Shore.
“Over the years, thousands of people have celebrated special occasions and marked momentous events at Mason’s,” said Robert A. W. Pascal in announcing the purchase. “It really does hold a special place in the hearts of many. So when I heard that the owner was considering selling after 48 years in the business, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.” Pascal, owner and general manager of St. Michaels Harbour Inn, Marina & Spa and Bistro St. Michaels, will also be overseeing the operation of Mason’s.
Mason’s, a 150-seat restaurant, provides a variety of dining experiences for both lunch and dinner. The restaurant also runs a catering business, handling many off-site events per year.
Pascal plans to retain the Mason’s name and keep the restaurant open for lunch and dinner. Executive Chef David Hayes, who oversees the food operations at Bistro St. Michaels, will take on that role at Mason’s. While he plans on updating the menu, the focus will remain on Eastern Shore cuisine and local ingredients.
Chef Hayes, originally from England, is known for the European flair he brings to many traditional dishes. A graduate of the Colchester Institute in Essex, Chef Hayes interned at Buckingham Palace in London. He began his career on the Eastern Shore at the Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels and was with Mason’s before joining St. Michaels Harbour Inn, Marina & Spa as Executive Chef in 2011. Voted “Best Chef Eastern Shore” by the readers of What’s Up? Eastern Shore Magazine, his recipes have earned him accolades in several culinary competitions.
Bill Redmond, a seasoned food and beverage executive with more than 26 years of experience in the industry, including 14 years at the Easton Club, will serve as the new general manager of Mason’s. “I am glad to be coming back to Easton to renew old acquaintances and catch up with friends,” he said. Redmond most recently served as general manager of Theo’s Steaks, Sides and Spirits in St. Michaels before joining Pascal’s team.
Matt Mason, who owned the restaurant, made the decision to sell the business for personal reasons. “I was involved in running Mason’s, which my mother started, for about 25 years…a long time. After getting married not too long ago and moving out of town, it seemed the time was right to sell it,” he explained. “I was pleased to find someone to take it over who is local, understands the people and the area, and plans to carry on the tradition of Mason’s.”
