Director Shelagh Grasso invites actors to audition for Jake’s Women, the first show in Church Hill Theatre’s 2017 Season. Auditions will be held in the theatre in Church Hill on Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23 at 2 pm and on Tuesday, October 25 at 6 pm. Production dates are January 20 through February 5, 2017, with performances on Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons.
Jake is a successful author with a troubled marriage. In the course of the play, he has real and imaginary conversations with his wife, mother, daughter and several lovers. Concerned that he’s going mad, Jake discusses his hallucinations with the audience and attempts to resolve his conflicting emotions. Like most of Neil Simon plays, Jake’s Women ends with the hope—but not the promise—of a happier future.
Grasso has roles for one man (Jake) and six women in this relationship comedy. Given the time shifts in the play, the role of Jake could be played by an actor between the ages of 35 and 50. The women’s parts range from a young teen-ager to late middle age. Grasso will ask actors to perform a prepared monologue from the script and also to do cold readings. Audition material, a cast list with descriptions of the characters, and a brief synopsis of the play may be found on the web at www.churchhilltheatre.org, under the “Get Involved” section, or on the Church Hill Theatre Facebook page under “Events.”
