University of Maryland Shore Regional Health and the University of Maryland Medical System applaud the leadership of our legislators and public health officials in understanding the challenges facing rural hospitals in Maryland and setting forth on a process to ensure all Marylanders have access to care that is high quality and delivered in the right place at the right time. We have an opportunity to become a national model for rural health care and we are grateful for the vision and courage of our elected officials and the community in this effort.
University of Maryland Shore Regional Health and the University of Maryland Medical System’s commitment to quality, accessible health care for residents of the Eastern Shore has never wavered. Our hospitals will continue to serve inpatients as well as provide the full array of outpatient services while rural health care needs are more fully explored.
We thank Senate Chairman Thomas “Mac” Middleton, House Chairman Pete Hammen, Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene Van Mitchell, Senator Stephen Hershey, Senator Addie Eckardt, Delegate Jay Jacobs, Delegate Steve Arentz, Delegate Jeff Ghrist and Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes, and all of the Eastern Shore Delegation, for their support. We thank our communities for their passion and voices. We look forward to joining with you in productive, positive dialogue reflective of the close-knit communities we are so proud to serve.
