I have no problem with P.E.A.C.E. advocating the prohibition of nuclear weapons. And a case can be made for linking their demonstration to Hiroshima Day although some will find that ironic. For without Hiroshima (and Nagasaki), we might still be trying to pry Japanese soldiers out of the endless warren of caves carved into Japanese mountains at the cost of the probable loss of hundreds of thousands of US soldiers.

As someone who works for the abolition of nuclear weapons, I would like to respond to Jack Fischer’s comments. Most people who work in this struggle feel that it is pointless to rehash whether we should or should not have dropped the bomb. It is more relevant t0 focus on the fact that now that we know what these lethal bombs can do, we should work to make sure they are never used again. It should be noted that many of the bombs in our roughly 8000 bomb arsenal are much more powerful than the ones used 75 years ago, and we are spending over $55 billion annually to maintain them, a questionable use of our tax dollars.
