During the month of September, local paper artist Ann Farley will be having a solo show in the art gallery at the back of the St. Michaels Library. The show will feature Ann’s whimsical works inspired by her small town and her love of all things tropical. Her three-dimensional paper designs of bright colors and fun shapes are all individually cut by hand and arranged in a striking manner against black backgrounds.
For the first time, all of Ann’s types of cut-paper artwork will be on display together. Her largest works feature symmetrical circular mandala-like arrangements of sailboats, palm trees & beach scenes, and tropical drinks. Her colorful depictions of Chesapeake Bay icons have been featured on Celebrate St. Michaels banners for 5 years. Her tryptic of Hawaiian images encapsulates meaningful Hawaiian words from aloha to mahalo (thank you). Ann has many smaller works for sale, and offers prints, coasters, & greeting cards of many of her images. She has a special surprise installation piece planned for this exhibit. Come see all the fun things she can do with paper!
There will be a reception in the St. Michaels Library Gallery on Thursday, September 10, from 5 to 7 pm. Please stop by to see the variety of Ann’s artwork and enjoy some nibbles.
Also in September, Ann will be teaching a class at Local Port of Art (LPOA) in St. Michaels. In What’s Your Favorite Landmark, participants will create their own whimsical depiction of a place special to them. This fun evening will take place at Lan’s Tapas Bar in St. Michaels on Tuesday, September 22, from 6 to 8 pm. Cost of $35 includes class instruction and all materials — plus one glass of wine, cheese, and fruit (other food & drink will be available for purchase). To sign up, please call LPOA at 443-205-2760. This course is offered by St. Michaels Events and is partially supported by the Talbot County Arts Council, with funds provided by the Talbot County Council and the towns of Easton, Oxford and St. Michaels.
