With almost sixty volunteer-build houses under their belt since they started in 1992, Talbot County’s highly respected Choptank Habitat For Humanity are not only adding four new houses a year, but they are the catalyst for four new families succeeding, against many odds, of achieving home ownership for the first time.
The Spy caught up with Choptank’s director, Nancy Andrew to talk about the fully impact of Habitat’s work with these special families and the extraordinary steps they must take take, including an entirely debt free credit history, before they can enroll in the program. As Nancy says, “This is not a program that gives away free houses.”
