The Cancer Center at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health will be hosting a Colon Cancer Symposium on Wednesday, March 11 from 7-8:30pm at the Nick Rajacich Health Education Center at UM Shore Medical Center at Easton, located at 219 S. Washington Street.
This event, which is free and open to the public, will feature guest speaker Michael Fisher, MD, a gastroenterologist with Digestive Health Associates in Easton. Dr. Fisher will provide participants with an overview of colon cancer, as well as provide information about the importance of getting a colonoscopy. Christine Allen, RD, CSO, LDN, clinical dietitian at UM Shore Regional Health, will also be on hand to offer dietary suggestions for the prevention of colon cancer.
“The Cancer Center is very excited for the opportunity to host its first ever colon cancer awareness event, featuring the expertise of Dr. Fisher and Christine Allen, our registered dietitian specializing in oncology nutrition,” comments Brian Leutner, MBA, director of oncology services for UM Shore Regional Health. “The Colon Cancer Symposium will enable us to educate the residents of our region about the common risk factors for colon cancer as well as methods for early detection and prevention of this disease.”
