Bill Shrieves,a five-year pancreatic cancer survivor and a founder of Mid Shore Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, Inc., will be the keynote speaker and will kick off the American Cancer Society’s 20th annual Relay for Life of Talbot County on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1 pm.
Bill is President of The Devon Group LLC. His company provides business consulting services to senior homecare companies internationally. He and his wife Jean owned and operated Comfort Keepers Mid-Shore from 2005 to the end of 2012. Comfort Keepers is a home care company providing Companion Care and Personal Care services to seniors in their homes.
Bill was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on November, 19, 2010. He had a Whipple procedure the day before Thanksgiving. In January 2011 the cancer had metastasized to his liver, making it stage four. After six months of chemo therapy, the cancer was in remission. Now, over four years later, Bill remains cancer free. Bill resides in McDaniel, Maryland with his wife Jean. They have two children, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Relay for Life Talbot County will begin at 11:30 am with a Survivor Luncheon followed by the official kick off and 1st lap which is dedicated to Cancer Survivors. The Relay will take place at Easton High School from 12:30 pm to 10 pm. The theme for this year, “Celebrating 30 Years, Look How Far We’ve Come”, reminds participants that their support is important for continued research to find a cure for all cancers and to fund support programs offered by the American Cancer Society.
Committee members are encouraging teams to select an 80’s theme for their costumes and table display. Themed laps and games will reflect favorite TV shows, musical entertainment, toys and fashions from the 80’s.
In addition, local musicians who have graciously donated their time include Katelyn Cherry, Sisters of Praise, Jazzercise, Y Not w/ Matt King, Silhouette Song, Syce, and Michael Kelly. Several local organizations will be on hand and will have on site demonstrations. Old Mill Deli, Shore Barbeque and Keith Davis Funnel Cakes will be providing a large variety food, beverage and dessert selections for participants throughout the day and evening.
