Local Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) launched a fund to provide scholarships at Saints Peter & Paul High School, Alex Handy, Society President, announced today.
Scholarship funds will be used to assist students of need who wish to attend Saints Peter & Paul High School located in Easton, Maryland.
The first two scholarship students will graduate this May. They are Amy Nguyen and Damaris Santillan, both recipients of a full, four-year scholarship. Both students performed very well academically, socially and by devoting time to social work. Ms. Nguyen is currently student body president.
Initial funding for the first two scholarships was provided by the Michael and Nancy Klein Foundation as well as by SVdP.
Two new scholarships will be awarded this year in the Fall. The Klein Foundation will again provide a full, four-year scholarship. In addition, the Harry D. Slaughter family has established a scholarship in memory of their father. He was a lifelong member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church and a active member of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, until his death.
An annual fund-raising event is also being planned to supplement the SVdP scholarship program. Scholarships will be awarded to Talbot County resident students, based on academic standing and on financial need. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is May 15, 2018. For application information regarding SVdP’s scholarship program, please call 410-770-4505, the SVdP hot line, and leave a message requesting information, or e-mail: [email protected].
Harry Slaughter’s friends and Society supporters may contribute to the Fund by sending donations made out to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Harry D. Slaughter Memorial Scholarship Memorial Fund. P.O. Box 783, Easton, Maryland 2601.
