After I graduated from architecture school, I spent an idyllic summer in France at the Ecole d’Art Americainnes at the Palace of Fontainebleu. Weekends were spent exploring Paris with fellow students and field trips from the great Loire Valley chateaux to Corbusier’s Ronchamp Chapel. I left with a greater appreciation for French 17th & 18th century architecture and a few pounds heavier due to those “formidable” patisseries!

What intrigued me about this house was that it was designed by an architect and it seemed to evoke houses of the American French eclectic period. Its round turret entry, arched windows and arched panel interior door panels all said “oui!

The interior has an open floor plan that connects the main sitting room, breakfast area and kitchen. I especially liked the interior architecture of the main sitting room with its floor to ceiling windows, hardwood floors, chamfered ceiling and the fireplace with its arched inset in the chimney framed by the chamfered ceiling. The charming dining room has a coffered ceiling and floor to ceiling windows. One of my favorite kitchen layouts is an “L” arrangements of cabinets opposite an island. This kitchen adds a “French twist” by adding an angle in the “L” to accommodate the double range that is parallel with the angled island/breakfast bar. Bon Appetit!
