Being the first president of any institution, particularly a large one, is not an easy job. From George Washington forward, executives assuming these new positions find themselves having to create new ways to operate on an almost daily basis. Some thrive in these roles, others, not so much, depending on the person and the experience they bring.
In the case of Dr. David Rath, Sts. Peter and Paul School‘s first president, it is easy to put him in the “thrives” camp with this kind of major institutional change. It also helps that David came to this position after playing a similar role in private schools in Louisiana and Maryland before assuming his new role less than a year ago at the Eastern Shore’s only Catholic elementary and high school.
In Rath’s first Spy interview, he talks about his role at Sts. Peter and Paul, and outlines the school challenges he faces, including enrollment and the need for parents and students to understand the real value of a parochial education.
