There was a bit of history made a few weeks ago at the Talbot County Free Library when Retired Colonel William De Shields, a native of Easton, Maryland discussed his experience as a historian of the famed Tuskegee Airmen. It turns out this would be the last time Colonel De Shields would share publically what it was like living on the home front during World War II.
Lucky for Spy readers, our videographer Lucas Saulsbury recorded the lecture and we are able to share some highlights of this unique event.
After serving 30 years in the United States Army, Col. De Shields enjoyed a successful career in a variety of fields including consultant and lecturer on matters related to human relations. He is also the founder and president of the Black Military History Institute of America, Inc. His activities include working with the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum on selected exhibits, assisting the Department of Defense with their World War II, 50th Anniversary preparation and assisting HBO with its movie “The Tuskegee Airmen.”
