Junior class members at St. Michaels Middle High School recently had the opportunity to register to vote even though they will not be able to exercise that right in this upcoming election.

During the Character Counts session for October, Talbot County Election Board members, Carol Voyles and Jane Bailey talked with the students about the importance of voting, the voting process along with a short history lesson. Students were given Voter Registration forms to complete and return to their advisor, Mr. JR Burkhardt.”I really appreciate the representatives of the Election Board coming in to talk to our Juniors about voting. Voting is so important and we want our students to exercise that right when they are of age to do so. I was glad to see that some of the students registered that day. The discussion tied in perfectly with the citizenship pillar of Character Counts,” stated Burkhardt.
This lesson was provided in partnership with Character Counts Mid Shore, Inc. (CCMS) a non-profit organization that teaches values known as the Six Pillars of Character – trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
