Admiral Franklin Buchanan and his wife Ann, the third daughter of Governor Edward Lloyd lived in this home in the 1800’s. Buchanan sailed on the Constellation, was the first Superintendent of the Naval Academy, served with Perry in the Mexican War and the Orient and then commanded the Confederate Merrimack in the Civil War. In the 1900’s The Rest was owned by Commander Charles T. Owens who supervised the construction of the Panama Canal and served in World War II!
