The Bugeye was developed for more efficient oyster dredging soon after the Civil War. The last one was built in 1918. “The Sanxton Hubbard” was built by M.M. Davis & Son, Solomons, Md. in 1891 and that shipbuilding website states it was originally owned by Clarence B. Kugler. The Nov. 1951 issue of “Motor Boating Magazine”‘s article “Old Bay Boats” says that in 1951 this Bugeye was owned by the proprietor of Kuglar Restaurant in Philadelphia and was outfitted with a top notch galley! Does anyone know what happened to this beautiful sailing vessel?
