To be sure, Talbot County has many components of its social, economic and health safety net. Dozens of charities and government agencies jointly attempt to reduce hunger, homelessness, financial destitution as well mental and physical illnesses throughout the County every day. But it would be hard to imagine another organization closer to ground zero that the Neighborhood Service Center.
With offices and outreach facilities located on Port Street in Easton, the NSC is more likely to be the first place those in need turn to when things get bad. Each year, thousands of the area’s youngest to its oldest turns to the Neighborhood Service Center to help get the heat turned on in the winter, finding shelter for families or providing food for the hungry.
Leading this remarkable and complex task is the NSC’s director Marilyn Neal. In her Spy interview, Marilyn talks about what it likes to be on the front line of need in Talbot County and how her organization is coping with ever larger numbers of people asking for help.
This video is approximately five minutes in length. The Spy Community Profiles project is supported in part by the United Fund of Talbot County.
