Local Port of Art (LPOA) in downtown St. Michaels is gearing up for the holidays with new creative exhibits.
The forty-plus members of this non-profit cooperative art gallery have a diverse display of artwork for your holiday gift-giving needs. Whether you are looking for large paintings, photographs, or glass creations — or seeking smaller gifts of pottery, jewelry, and art prints — shop local and give something handmade by a local artisan this season.
The gallery’s featured artist for December is Heidi Wetzel, fiber artist extraordinaire. Heidi is an award-winning artist who incorporates natural materials in her baskets and weavings. Her work reflects the beauty of our Eastern Shore landscapes and environments, and is available in many forms and price ranges. Heidi emigrated from Germany as a teen, and she now teaches and mentors many young artists here on the Shore. Her kindness and artisanship show through in all she does, and LPOA is delighted to have her as part of the gallery.
A special exhibit of local student work will be on display this month. Youth photographers Megan Watts and Lauren Farley will be displaying their beautiful photographs. Megan is a senior at St. Michaels High School who focuses on photographing sports, hunting, crabbing, & fishing. Lauren is a 5th-grader at The Country School who loves to take pictures of flowers and insects from unusual angles.
Local Port of Art has special holiday items and ornaments, and will be a festive place to shop during the fun events of Midnight Madness on Saturday, December 5, and Christmas in St Michaels on Saturday, December 12.
Located in the heart of the St. Michaels retail/historic district at 210 S. Talbot Street, Local Port of Art has something for everyone on your list this holiday season!
