Jay Fleming will address the Tidewater Camera Club on Monday, October 10, 2016 from 7 to 9 PM in the Talbot County Community Center’s Wye Oak Room. Photographer Jay Fleming will discuss the process that went into creating his first coffee table style photography book, “Working the Water”. This book is a visual narrative of the lives of those individuals whose livelihood is directly dependent upon the Chesapeake Bay, America’s largest estuary. The book comprises photographs of seasoned watermen, scenic seascapes, weathered workboats and bay bounty – a true and complete depiction of Chesapeake Bay life. Jay will show images from the book and discuss the work that went into creating it. The Public is welcome to attend.
Jay started learning photography at the age of 14 under the tutelage of his father, former National Geographic Photographer, Kevin Fleming upon inheriting his Nikon. He’s been photographing ever since, spending countless hours experimenting and researching potential photo opportunities, eventually becoming a professional Photographer himself. Jay has used this career to support his belief in ecological conservation. He spent two summers in Wyoming working to save the native cutthroat trout, while photographing the beauty of the landscape and wildlife. This led to some of his photographs appearing in a publication of National Geographic depicting the danger of invasive species on native ones. Recently, he has spent two years photographing scenes closer to home documenting the life of the Chesapeake Bay.
Founded in 1963, the Tidewater Camera Club strives to promote interest and participation in photography for all skill levels and ages. For more information, go to www.tidewatercameraclub.org.
