On the evening of Wednesday, 26th of October, Saint Martin’s with the help of many community groups and volunteers celebrated Halloween at its first Trunk or Treat event. Thanks to a generous donation by Girl Scout Troop 487 from Centreville, every child had the opportunity to receive a free Halloween costume from the Saint Martin’s Thrift Store. Over 100 kids in costumes “trunk or treated” in the parking lot. Trunks were decorated by SMM staff, volunteers and local service organizations including: Caroline and Dorchester County Local Management Boards, Caroline 4-H Club, Caroline County Sheriff’s Department, Board of Childcare and Caroline Department of Juvenile Services.

Families were treated to a snack of “candy corn” fruit cup with pineapple and mandarin oranges. SMM participates University of Maryland’s Market to Mealtimes program that healthy seasonal recipes. Saints Peter and Paul students and ROTC students from Easton High School volunteered, helping to make the evening an exhilarating success. Complimentary hot dogs and juice were served as snacks. Besides simply receiving candy, the children were offered their choice of a stuffed animal and a book to take home. Thanks to the efforts of Steve Hovland, each child in a costume was photographed and given the picture to take home.
Participating families were thrilled to have the opportunity for an evening of trick or treating in a safe and friendly environment.
