University of Maryland Memorial Hospital Foundation will host a free seminar, “Tax Planning for 2014 and Beyond,” on Saturday, November 1 from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Nick Rajacich Health Education Center, located at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton, 219 S. Washington Street in Easton.
Guest presenters at the free seminar include: Darian Sump, CPA, Sump & Associates, PC, and Steve Ochse, CPA, Managing Director, CBIZ MHM, LLC and Mayer Hoffman McCann, PC.
Darian Sump, owner of Sump & Associates, PC, an accounting firm in Easton, provides tax and accounting services to individuals, small businesses and non-profit organizations. He graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and is a certified public accountant (CPA) in Maryland. A Talbot County native, Sump is involved in the local community and he currently serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Talbot County. He is also a graduate of Shore Leadership and LEAD Maryland. Sump holds professional memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Steve Ochse, CPA, is the Managing Director at the CBIZ MHM, LLC office in Easton and is a shareholder with Mayer Hoffman McCann, PC. Ochse has been in public accounting since 1985 and has been providing auditing and consulting services to municipal governmental and not-for-profit entities since 1987. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Baltimore and is a certified public accountant (CPA) in Maryland. Involved in the local community, he currently chairs planned giving for the Chesapeake College Foundation; is a member of the Medical Focus Group for the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce and chairs the UM Memorial Hospital Foundation planned giving council. Ochse holds professional memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.
This informative morning seminar will cover a variety of topics involving tax planning issues for 2014 and beyond, and will help participants identify year-end tax planning strategies, including planning for capital gains, tax consequences of inheritance, and charitable donations. Sump and Ochse will also discuss how an individual can take advantage of expiring energy tax credits, potentially yielding significant savings. There will be time for discussion and questions.
