Congresswoman Donna Edwards will be the keynote speaker at the Annual Meeting of the Democratic Women’s Club June 7 at the Senior Center, 400 Brookletts in Easton from 2-4 PM. Edwards announced her candidacy for the US Senate seat after Barbara Mikulski decided to step down at the end of her term. This is your chance to meet, talk to and listen to Donna, and I hope you’ll take advantage of this unique opportunity!
Congresswoman Edwards represents Maryland’s 4th Congressional District, comprising portions of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties. She has served in that position since June 2008, and is the first African-American woman to serve Maryland in Congress. Her first act since being sworn in was to add Maryland to the After School Suppers Program, ensuring access to nutritional suppers and youth development programs after school.
She has introduced legislation to expand research and development, domestic manufacturing, and infrastructure spending to create jobs and grow the economy, as well as legislation to overturn the Citizens United decision. She was selected by Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi to serve as co-chair of the Steering and Policy Committee and Chairwoman of the Taskforce on Election Reform.
Congresswoman Edwards completed undergraduate studies at Wake Forest University and holds a Juris Doctor from the University of New Hampshire School of Law, and is the proud mother of a son.
The event is free, with a short reception beginning at 2 PM.
