The Eastern Shore Writers Association announces a creative writing workshop to be conducted by Lynn Schwartz, a favorite of the Bay-to-Ocean Writers Conference, on Saturday, May 24 at Trinity Cathedral in Easton. The workshop titled “Creating Complex Characters” will be held from 9-11:30am in the parish hall. There will be a modest charge of $25 for ESWA members and $35 for non-members.
Ms. Schwartz will answer the question: What do your characters yearn for? She will examine how a character’s wants and desires drive key elements of a story, including narrative, dialogue, conflict and plot. Short exercises and readings will illustrate ways to identify and depict a character’s passion, which is essential to creating a compelling person — someone with whom a reader wants to spend time. Join in and learn to strengthen what is memorable about the people who populate your tales, or come ready to create a new character whose story commands attention. This workshop is appropriate for those working on a novel, short story or memoir. All levels are welcome.
Lynn Schwartz’s plays have been performed in Atlanta and New York City including Lincoln Center. Her stories have appeared in literary journals and she has written numerous lifestyle features.
