The YMCA of the Chesapeake staff gathered to thank long-time members Dr. Tony and Cindy Calabro for their donation of four outdoor benches to the Easton Family YMCA. YMCA staff was on hand to show their support and appreciation for the Calabros generosity.
Dr. Tony Calabro commented on the donation, “It’s great to see the benches getting so much use. Cindy and I are so thankful for the YMCA and all they do for the community; this is our way of expressing our gratitude.” YMCA Strong Kids Campaign Chair, Anny Williams was on hand to express her thanks as well, “We need more people who step in to help when they see a need. One person really can make a difference.”
Dr. Tony and Cindy Calabro are long-time Eastern Shore residents. Dr. Calabro began a family dental practice in Cambridge from 1976 until he retired in 2002. Cindy is a dental hygienist and worked for her husband, as well as other dentists and dental specialist until she retired in 2000. Both are very active in their communities and donate their time to several local non-profits.
The YMCA of the Chesapeake has been a staple of the community since, 1954 supporting local needs and addressing needs as they arise. In addition to providing assistance for membership, funds raised by the Strong Kids campaign support outreach programs based on individual needs of the community.
In 2013, the Y gave out over $500,000 in assistance to over 4,000 individuals, families and seniors across the region. The Strong Kids Campaign depends on the generosity of its members and the community to help people of all ages and from all walks of life to be more healthy, confident, connected and secure.
The Y is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits and the largest Human Service organization on the Eastern Shore of Maryland strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Across the U.S., 2,700 Ys engage 21 million men, women and children – regardless of age, income or background – to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve the nation’s health and well-being, and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors.
