Celebrate Grandparents’ Day at the Easton Library
On Saturday, September 9, the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library invites grandparents to celebrate Grandparents’ Day by coming in any time between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to read to their grandchild or grandchildren in the library’s children’s garden. Grandparents may bring their favorite book with them to read or pick one from the library’s shelves. All library programs are free and open to the public. Easton Library to Hold Board Game Nights for Teens
On Monday, September 11, and again on Thursday, September 28, the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library will hold a board game night for teens from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Teens are invited to bring their own tabletop card and board games or use the library’s to play games and socialize with one another. Bill Peak to Host Easton Library One Maryland One Book Discussion
On Monday, September 11, at 6:30 p.m., in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, “Library guy” Bill Peak will host a discussion of this year’s One Maryland One Book, “Purple Hibiscus,” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. In his column in The Star Democrat, Peak called Adichie’s novel “… far and away the best book ever chosen to be the One Maryland One Book.” One Maryland One Book is the program of Maryland Humanities in which people all across the state read the same book at the same time. Children to Create Drawbots with FutureMakers at Easton Library
On Thursday, September 14, in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, FutureMakers will host a program at 4:00 p.m. for grades 2 & 3, and again at 5:30 p.m. for all ages, in which children will create a machine that can wiggle and draw. Easton Library to Host Talk on Adolescence & Substance Abuse
On Thursday, September 14, at 6:30 p.m., as part of the Talbot County Free Library’s efforts on behalf of the Talbot Goes Purple campaign, Jayne Fitzgerald will give a talk entitled, “Adolescence & Substance Abuse: The Times They Are A-Changing” in the library’s Easton branch. Fitzgerald describes adolescence as “one of the most extraordinarily positive times in any person’s life, and also one of the most risky.”
Fitzgerald is the Executive Director of the Talbot Partnership. She holds a BA in psychology and has spent her career studying family life and adolescent behavior. Fitzgerald is passionate about warning of the harm substance abuse can cause the adolescent brain. She is a powerful advocate for community support of youth engagement.
