Talbot County Government will host a special ceremony to honor the heroic acts of bravery and sacrifice that emerged on September 11, 2001. The ceremony, taking place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. at the corner of West and Dover Streets in Easton, Maryland, will recognize the courage of first responders, military personnel, and ordinary citizens who acted selflessly in the face of immense danger.
The annual event serves as a reminder not only of the lives lost, but of the profound heroism displayed in the aftermath of the attacks. From firefighters and police officers to everyday individuals who stepped forward to help, their courage continues to inspire our nation today. The ceremony will feature remarks from local leaders, a moment of silence, and the presentation of a wreath to honor the memory of those who served and sacrificed.
Local students will perform musical tributes, and Pete Lesher, Vice President of the Talbot County Council, will deliver the keynote address.
“While we remember those taken from us, we also gather to honor the incredible bravery and resilience shown by so many on that day,” said Sarah Kilmon, Communications Manager for Talbot County. “Their heroism in the face of adversity is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, and this day allows us to reflect on their extraordinary actions.”
In addition to the ceremony, community members are encouraged to participate in service activities throughout the day, reflecting the national 9/11 Day of Service initiative. The goal is to honor the memory of the day by performing acts of kindness and service that strengthen our community.

The event will be followed for a call for the community to participate in #IWillFor911Day. #IWillFor911Day is the annual “virtual volunteering” social media campaign organized by the nonprofit 9/11 Day, in which hundreds of employers, nonprofits, schools, and other groups – along with millions of individuals – pledge to do “good deeds” in observance of the 9/11 National Day of Service, sharing their plans on social media with the hashtag #IWillFor911Day.
