By Easton’s standards, a three-story building counts as a skyscraper, and that is what Building African-American Minds (BAAM) had in mind when it conceptualized its new academic center. But for Dina and Derick Daly, the organization’s founders, it was not because it came with an elevator but because it was the kind of facility needed to ensure that every child and their parents in Talbot County could reach the skies of financial security and career development.
While a good idea doesn’t always ensure a project’s success, when it comes from the Dalys and their team of board members and staff, it’s more than a sure bet.
That is the case for the $10 million academic center. Even while fundraising in the middle of COVID, facing astronomical cost increases due to the supply chain breakdown and high inflation, BAAM once again hit one out of the ballpark as it plans to open the Center’s doors in December with a number of celebrations scheduled to mark this historic moment for the Easton community.
Dina stopped by the Spy Studio the other day to talk about the Academic Center and all the remarkable uses the building will offer the community.

I drove by this building today – what a beautiful, first-class looking project and great addition to our community. Congratulations to all involved in bringing this to life……I look forward to joining the opening celebrations and getting a tour.
