In 1975 when Howdy Freedlander and I knew that our romance was the real thing, my mother informed me that we must visit my aunt and uncle in Bozman. They had retired to what had been their second home having lived in Baltimore. My aunt was the queen bee of the family; very proper, judgements and formidable. The subtext was that Howdy was Jewish, an anomaly for the family. We drove to Bozman from Baltimore for a lunch invitation. It went so well (no surprise to any of you who knew him) that they invited us to stay for an early dinner at Harrison’s. It was announced that we would have the best crab cakes, fried chicken and home-grown string beans. The rest is happy history.
