The Ivy Cafe, located at 12 West Dover Street in downtown Easton, is announcing the launch of “Art at The Ivy” and will begin holding cultural and social events starting this month. On the schedule are art exhibits, creative workshops, and informative talks.
The idea was born during a conversation between the restaurant owner, Jennifer McCrea and artist Jen Wagner. “We started discussing ideas for social events, things that would be fun and bring people together,”says McCrea.”By the end of the conversation we had a fully formed concept.” Wagner saw the potential in the collaboration right away. “The Ivy is the center of our town; it’s already established as the core restaurant for locals and visitors alike. There is a need for fun, simple social events in the area, and we are hoping to provide content that brings people together,” says Wagner.
The first event planned is a “Smart Watch Social’ scheduled for January 28th at 6p.m. “I kept hearing ‘I need a young person to explain this to me’ so I thought, why not have just that?” said McCrea. Sophie McGee will lead participants through the basics of using their watch. “It’s an opportunity to get out of the house, learn a little something, and meet up with folks from the community.” The event is free (although donations are welcome) and open to the public with no pre-registration required.
Josepha Price plans to hold art workshops in the space, with her first a collage class on February 27th from 6-9p.m. She’s also organizing a once a month drop-in figure drawing class with a twist.
Art at The Ivy will host rotating art exhibits designed to bring unique work by artists not already represented in Easton. Emerging artists will be paired with established artists to create mentoring opportunities. Wagner is looking forward to curating shows and and helping artists get a foothold in the area. The first art exhibit will honor Black History Month and will feature the works of Ram Sueno, Bernie Houston, Whitney Elloitt and Siante Moore. There is a meet the artist reception planned for Friday, February 7th from 5:30-8pm.
