My daughter and her two-year old daughter recently flew to the US from Europe for a visit with us here in Easton. Lugging a large suitcase, along with her backpack and a child strapped to her front, my tired daughter entered the line for customs. Just imagine what it must have felt like seeing the long line ahead! Our granddaughter had grown a bit fussy after the long international flight and was anxious to get down, but with the long line snaking back and forth it was going to be some time before that could happen. Seeing the situation, a young man a row in front of her offered to exchange places. This would move her up about a dozen places. She demurred but he insisted. Then another gentleman in the next row in insisted on the same exchange. These thoughtful acts of kindness lead to some cheerful discussion and eased not only her, but other travelers as well, through the wait.

As we head toward the Spring/Summer travel season, what a great reminder that these acts of kindness while traveling can mean so much, not just to the person benefiting, but to those providing and seeing! Kudos to the young man who was so thoughtful.
The mothers of those men should be proud! When I was pregnant and riding the bus and Metro to work downtown, I was always amazed that 9 times out of ten it was a woman who would offer me a seat. I am now in my seventies but spring to my feet for anyone who looks like they could use a kindness.
