The St. Michaels Art League is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 Original Banner Artwork Show. This is the artwork used to create the banners displayed on the town’s utility poles beginning each year in April, through November.
This year’s banner art was judged by Curtis Short, Managing Director of Choptank Electric Cooperative, one of the league’s partners. Choptank Electric is responsible for hanging the banners on the town’s utility poles.
Two first place awards were given, one in the category of “Best Fine Art” and another for “Best Graphic Design. Best Fine Art went to Kate Markham for her photograph “Windy Day,” and Best Graphic Design went to Jane Anderson for her oil painting “Mallows on Chestnut Street.” A third top award was chosen by Kevin Snelling, owner of the Creative XPresssions Gallery and Frame Shop in St. Michaels for “Best Depiction of St. Michaels.” This award went to Sherry Smith for her watercolor “Crab Claw.” Honorable Mentions went to Georgette Toews for “The Sentinel,” Lucia Calloway for “Christ Church,” Madelynne Plog for “Sunset Cruise,” Ned Egan for “Museum,” Stacey Sass for “Cherish the Chesapeake,” and Walter Urbanek for “1812 Reenactors.”
Framed or unframed “Celebrate St. Michaels” banner posters may be purchased at Creative Xpressions Gallery and Frame Shop located at 204 S. Talbot St. in St. Michaels.
