Talbot Thrive’s Rolling Rodeo Teaches Bicycle Safety to Over 80 Students at White Marsh Elementary School

Talbot Thrive, in partnership with Talbot County Public Schools Education Foundation, Pedal Power Kids and the Maryland Highway Safety Office, hosted a successful Rolling Rodeo event at White Marsh Elementary School on Monday, June 2, 2025. More than 80 third and fourth-graders navigated a specially designed bike-safety obstacle course, received brand-new helmets, and took home swag bags that included a reusable water bottle.

Volunteers and staff from Talbot Thrive designed and ran the program, ensuring each participant learned essential bicycle safety skills in a fun, hands-on environment. Pedal Power Kids, an organization based in Anne Arundel County, provided expert instructors who guided students through the “roads” of the course, proper signaling techniques, and general bicycle and helmet safety.

“Seeing the excitement on each student’s face as they conquered the course was truly rewarding,” said Heather Grant, Executive Director of Talbot Thrive. “Our team worked tirelessly to make this event both educational and enjoyable and we’re especially grateful to Pedal Power Kids for traveling down and sharing their expertise.”

Each participant walked away with a complimentary, properly fitted helmet—provided through a grant from the Maryland Highway Safety Office—as well as a swag bag that included a durable, Talbot Thrive and TCPS Education Foundation–branded water bottle.

Talbot Thrive is currently awaiting the results of a FY26 grant application that, if approved, will allow the Rolling Rodeo program to expand to all five elementary schools in Talbot County. “Our goal is to reach every student in Talbot County with these life-saving bicycle-safety lessons,” said Grant. “With this new funding, we can ensure that each elementary school hosts its own Rolling Rodeo next year.”
