Please take a moment to imagine Talbot County without its Spy.
No daily coverage of local government. No steady reporting on the arts. No profiles of local candidates. No stories about the nonprofits, leaders, and neighbors who shape this community. Instead, we would rely on shrinking legacy papers and occasional monthly publications to tell our story — if they could.
The Talbot Spy exists to make sure that never happens.
As an education-based nonprofit, we do not put our journalism behind a paywall. We believe access to local news and cultural coverage should remain open to everyone. That means we cannot rely on subscriptions alone to sustain our work.
Each year, we must raise $70,000 to keep the Spy publishing daily. Advertising support helps, but it does not cover our costs. The difference must come from readers.
If even a portion of our 5,000 daily subscribers made a contribution, we would meet our goal and keep the Spy strong for another year.
Without reader support, the Spy cannot survive. And once a local news source disappears, it rarely comes back.
