Talbot County Public Schools (TCPS) announced the 2026-2027 Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year at a celebration held at the Easton Elks Lodge. The Teacher and Support Staff of the Year Program recognizes outstanding educators who have innovative ideas, focus positive attention on education, and demonstrate superior commitment to students.
The 2026-2027 Talbot Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Holly Sump, Chapel District Elementary School Kindergarten Teacher. Mrs. Sump earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Master of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Salisbury University. A National Board Certified Teacher, she joined the TCPS Team in 2021, having previously taught at Greensboro Elementary in Caroline County.
Mrs. Sump has served the school district in numerous ways beyond the classroom, including leading professional development for her peers, and serving on the School Improvement Team and the TCPS Grading and Technology Committees. She is an active volunteer for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and has coached youth soccer and tee ball.
Mrs. Chanae Neal – Easton Elementary School, Special Education Instructional Assistant has been chosen as the 2026-2027 Support Staff of the Year. Mrs. Neal holds a Paraprofessional Certificate, as well as an Associate of Arts in Elementary Education from Chesapeake College. She began her career in at Talbot County Public Schools as a substitute teacher in 2021 and joined the staff at Easton Elementary in her current role in 2022.
Mrs. Neal assists classroom teachers and students with implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), provides small group instruction to students with diverse learning needs, and has facilitated afterschool enrichment programs. She volunteers in the local community as a driver for “Meals on Wheels” and as a youth basketball coach.
“These outstanding members of the TCPS team both demonstrate exemplary work ethic and commitment to ensuring that every student is valued, celebrated and empowered to achieve their full potential,” said Dr. Sharon Pepukayi, Superintendent. “I congratulate Mrs. Sump and Mrs. Neal, as well as all of this year’s finalists on their well-deserved recognition.”
The celebration was sponsored by the Education System Federal Credit Union and Hertrich Chevy GMC and the Talbot County Public Schools Education Foundation.
