Academy Art Museum’s Visiting Artist Series welcomes back its 2025 Artist-in-Residence
If you haven’t yet made your way into the Academy Art Museum’s atrium, now is the moment. And if you have — chances are you’ve been thinking about it ever since. Hanging in that soaring two-story space is something genuinely extraordinary: a shimmering cloud of fine colored threads that floats between the floors, shifting as you move, revealing itself and hiding itself depending on where you stand. It is the work of Anne Lindberg, the museum’s 2025 Artist-in-Residence, and it has been quietly transforming that atrium since last spring.
This Friday, April 3rd at 6 PM, Lindberg returns to Easton for a free public lecture as part of the Academy Art Museum’s Visiting Artist Series — a chance to sit down with the artist whose work has been greeting visitors all year and hear the story behind it.
The title of the installation, seen and unseen, is not accidental. The two-story space means you see part of the work from the first floor and must climb to the second to see the rest. That quality of hide-and-seek — of a work that rewards you for moving through it, looking again, changing your angle — is central to what makes Lindberg’s art so captivating. Her immersive, thread-based installations have been shown at major museums across the country and abroad, and her work lives in the permanent collections of institutions including the Detroit Institute of Art and the Smithsonian. She is, simply put, the real thing — and on Friday evening she’ll be right here in Easton talking about all of it, for free.
The conversation doesn’t stop with Friday’s lecture, either. The very next morning — Saturday, April 4th — Lindberg is joining Easton poet Mary McCoy for a special workshop titled Color and Poetry. No experience in art-making or poetry is required; just bring your favorite pen. Participants will work through writing exercises, create original poetry, and then — in a lovely finishing touch — see their poems installed in the upstairs gallery directly alongside seen and unseen.
