Can you identify any of these four men who were working for the local WCEM radio station in 1953? Do you know any information about the station? Online Google research states that it was 1240AM out of Cambridge, Maryland, but we don’t know if that’s accurate?

If it is Cambridge, they could be Sam Cannon and Phil Adams.

TRUE! WCEM radio was 1240AM out of Cambridge. But the station originally signed on the air in November 1947, operating as WCMD, aka “The Voice of the Shoremen.” Their waterfront studio was at The Pines near Great Marsh. The call letters were officially changed to WCEM in December 1949. Over the following decades, the station was a major longtime voice for the Mid-Shore region, airing adult standards, talk, and local sports. In my childhood it featured the voice of Cambridge local Sam Cannon who brought us kids a “homemade” children’s breakfast radio show!! One MAJOR event each morning was “Tadpoles’ March to the Breakfast Table.” When I was at Cambridge High, I used to keep basketball scorecards and otherwise assist Sam in his local sports broadcasts. According to Wikipedia, after losing its tower site in October 2024, the station went silent, and its broadcast license was officially cancelled by the FCC on November 20, 2025.
