Be Set Free!
That’s the theme of a free public talk to be given at 2:00 this coming Sunday, May 31, at the pavilion in Idlewild Park.
The dynamic speaker, Nicole Virgil, is a Christian Science practitioner and member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship from Illinois. This will be her second appearance in Easton.
Many people today feel burdened, discouraged, even fearful. The discoverer of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, quoted the Bible, Romans 8, in this bold statement in her seminal work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “Citizens of the world, accept the ‘glorious liberty of the children of God’, and be free!”
Nicole will explain that freedom from disease, financial worries, difficult relationships – in fact, any circumstance that would seem to keep someone in mental or physical bondage – is possible for everyone through gaining a better understanding of the nature of God and man.
In an interview with Nicole published last December in the Christian Science Journal, she spoke about Talbot County native, Frederick Douglass, who became a famous abolitionist, author, and international lecturer despite being born in slavery and deprived of education.
Nicole said that after reading Douglass’ autobiographies, it occurred to her that he must have known he was free from the time he was a little boy. But she wondered, “How on earth could he know something that nobody else believed and wasn’t written down anywhere in the laws where he lived?”
The answer to that intriguing question has great relevance to us today. Nicole will examine liberty from a Biblical perspective and show how real people today find their freedom from all kinds of physical, emotional and circumstantial restrictions that seem clearly beyond their control.
