This year’s fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. over the harbor at St. Michaels on Sunday, July 5 in honor of the 250th anniversary of the nation’s signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The commissioners of St. Michaels are organizing the event and are collecting donations to finance what promises to be a memorable display. St. Michaels Town Manager Don Richardson said last year’s Fourth of July fireworks display featured approximately 1,000 individual rockets. This year, he said, the town is doubling down for the 250th Anniversary Celebration. “This year’s display will feature more than 2,000 rockets.”
The Independence Day Celebration in St. Michaels is funded entirely through donations. Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and Inn at Perry Cabin are co-sponsoring this year’s event with contributions of $10,000 each. “Other organizations, like Rotary, as well as businesses and individuals are also contributing,” said Richardson. “But we still need more so we encourage all who will enjoy this year’s display to also pitch in.”
