University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH) will offer three free health education classes in August – Safeguarding Seniors, Adult CPR and Pediatric CPR. All classes are held in the Roger D. Brown Education Center at University of Maryland Medical Center at Chestertown. UM SRH is a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System.
Set for Wednesday, August 5, 5 to 6 p.m., “Safeguarding Seniors: Recognizing Elder Abuse and Neglect” is a training class that outlines the incidence of elder abuse in Maryland and the warning signs of abuse and neglect. Participants also will learn how to effectively report suspected cases to the appropriate authorities. In addition to in-person attendance, this class will be accessible for online attendance via Webex.
“Saving Lives Together: CPR Basics for Community Heroes” will be offered on Tuesday, August 11, 5 to 7 p.m. This non-certification class equips individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to provide immediate assistance in emergency situations that can arise in the home and in community settings.
“Saving Little Lives: Pediatric CPR for Community Heroes,” also a non-certification class, is scheduled for Thursday, August 13, 5 to 7 p.m. The aim of this class is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to confidently and effectively perform pediatric (child and infant) CPR until emergency medical personnel arrive.
