Sunflower Nights at Vintage Family Farms Brings Late-Summer Magic to the Mid-Shore

Chesapeake Forum is kicking off a bright new tradition with Sunflower Nights at Vintage Family Farms, a free summer celebration set for Saturday, August 1, from 5:30–8:30 PM in nearby Hurlock. This upbeat community event invites Forum members and friends to unwind, explore, and savor the beauty of rural Maryland at golden hour—surrounded by acres of sunflowers.

Hosted by Vintage Family Farms owner and operator Katelin Frase, the evening blends everything people love about summer on the Mid-Shore: wide-open fields, friendly faces, farm animals, food trucks, and the simple joy of watching the sun sink behind a sea of blooms. Guests can mix and mingle, play farm games, enjoy a picnic dinner, and wander through the farm’s vibrant U-Pick flower field.

For those who love bringing nature indoors, the U-Pick field will be open for build-your-own bouquets. Choose a container—$10, $15, $25, or $100—and fill it to the brim with stems of your choice from lush greenery to standout focal flowers. Pre-assembled arrangements will also be available at farm-fresh prices. It’s the perfect chance to craft a festive sunflower centerpiece for your table or simply treat yourself to something beautiful.

Past participants rave about Katelin’s courses, highlighting the joy of exploring the farm, learning about local flowers and flower arranging, and creating unique arrangements in a setting that feels both peaceful and inspiring. Vintage Family Farms—founded by Katelin and her husband Eric in 2022—is a true family endeavor, rooted in their passion for heirloom vegetables, locally grown cut flowers, and environmental education.

Sunflower Nights is FREE and open to all, held in person at 4541 Preston Rd., Hurlock, MD 21643. Bring your friends, bring your curiosity, and get ready for a summer evening that shines.  Please register at chesapeakeforum.org so we know how many food trucks to invite.
