I can understand Clayton’s views and position but, like so many Republicans, he wants to ignore that Republican controls states started this practice. I didn’t hear Clayton condemn them.
No, gerrymandering in Maryland started under Parris Glendenning, when they gerrymandered Roscoe Bartlett out of his seat and created districts that make no sense to an unbiased observer. This lie has been repeated over and over. New York and California have done the same thing.
Parris Glendening’s former press secretary here. Your timing is off. The redistricting you referenced, which resulted in Roscoe Bartlett’s re-election defeat, occurred in 2012 – nine years after the Governor’s term ended.
My mistake. It was still initiated by Democrats. Whatever.
